Home Learning
Home Learning (in the event of school closure)
Our strategic lead for remote learning is Rebecca Anson.
In response to school closing due to the COVID 19 outbreak, these pages were set up for each class, to enable children to work from home during the first lockdown and the period of school closure. During the 2020 Spring and Summer terms, teachers uploaded activities on to our school website, for children to complete at home.
Since September 2020, we have moved to using Google Classroom to enable a more interactive approach; initially using the learning platform for homework and in computer lessons, to enable children to familiarise themselves with how to access and upload school work.
Post pandemic, we are continuing to use Google Classroom for small pieces of homework to ensure children and teachers remain familiar with using the platform and are able to quickly switch to online learning should the need arise.
Post pandemic lockdown, there are different scenarios where children (or an individual pupil) may have to move to online learning. For example:
- If school has to be closed for health and safety reasons (e.g. extreme heat, electricity failure, flooding).
- The whole school is closed because of a local or national lockdown.
- A child is off school for an extended period of time (e.g. for medical reasons, a family bereavement abroad requiring an extended period of absence)
In scenarios where whole classes are closed, live video registers will take place via Google Classroom at a set time each morning. The teacher will upload their own short video lessons daily, explaining the learning and activities for English, Maths and another subject.
Please refer to our Remote Learning Plan to see how your child will be supported in their learning, should they have to learn from home due to any of the above reasons.
School has a number of devices which we are able to loan out to families. Families may borrow these free of charge for the academic year. Devices need to be returned to school at the end of the academic year, but can be ‘checked out’ again the following year. These devices are intended for children who are having difficulty accessing on line work because of having to share with brothers or sisters, or for children who have no access at all, to tablets or computers at home.
SAFEGUARDING
This has additional safeguarding measures that we will take to ensure the safety of all of our pupils whilst they are not in school.
Please remember to stay safe on line.
